ACOUSTIC HERO WALL
ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN PROTOCOL
Policy Last Updated On: 2026-09-05
PERMA Media: ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN CONSTRAINTS & MATERIAL PHYSICS NOTICE: You are architecting a physical, 3D acoustic installation. Perma Media operates with strict automated compiler tolerances. Failure to adhere to these absolute machine tolerances will result in the algorithmic rejection of your files. PROACTIVE SUPPORT: If you encounter file rejections or any other technical or design-related issues, direct all technical formatting inquiries to our Pre-Press Administration Team at support@permamedia.com or escalate critical blockages directly to a live administrator at 1-800-PERMA-MED.
1. THE STRUCTURAL PERIMETER & THE "STENCIL VS. Slug" RULE
The file you have downloaded was dynamically generated to match the exact mathematical dimensions of your Host's facility. It contains a locked, Red Stroke outer perimeter.
- Layer 1 (Base Layer): Keep the Red Stroke outer perimeter active. Do not alter it.
- Layer 2+ (Stacked/Inlay Elements): You must compile all structural layers and color fills within this single master file, organizing them logically by elevation. Only include the global Red Stroke perimeter on a Layer 2+ elevation if that specific material physically bleeds to the absolute geometric limit of the canvas. Isolated art elements (slugs) floating entirely within the interior canvas bounds must never include the outer perimeter.
- TYPOGRAPHY CONSTRAINTS & THE RELIEF-CUT Mandate: To ensure long-term architectural durability and prevent physical degradation during installation, Perma Media enforces a strict 50.8mm minimum thickness rule for all "Positive" top-layer typography (letters cut and applied as an additional layer).
- If your desired typography falls below this 50.8mm threshold, it CANNOT be a positive layer. It must be converted into a relief cut (a Negative 45-degree or 90-degree Through-Cut).
- THE BASE LAYER RESTRICTION (No Through-Cuts & The Universal Anchor Fallback): You are strictly prohibited from placing Negative Through-Cuts on Layer 1 (The solid Base Layer applied directly to the strapping grid). Cutting all the way through the base layer exposes the underlying wall and grid strapping, which is an immediate QA failure. Layer 1 must remain a solid, monolithic anchor. Layer 1 may utilize any single Hex Code from the Host's approved palette (Section 6) as its permanent base fill. There is no longer a mandated Charcoal Anchor or darkest-tone requirement for the Base Layer; the Brand Designer may select any approved color for maximum creative flexibility on the foundation layer.
- THE MONOLITHIC VOID (Layer 2+): All Negative Through-Cut typography and complex geometries must be cut out of Layer 2 (or above), exposing the solid, uncut Layer 1 felt beneath it to create a premium "Monolithic Void."
- The "Site Context" Layer (Designing Around Reality): Your file contains a locked bottom layer titled Site_Context displaying a photograph of the Host's actual physical wall. You must utilize this layer to identify real-world obstructions (e.g., thermostats, HVAC vents, fire strobes, doors, etc.). While our CNC machines will cut the perfect outer rectangular silhouette, our on-site installation teams will execute manual field-cuts to expose these hardware obstructions. Do not place critical Brand elements, typography, or intricate logos directly over these obstructions, as they will be physically cut out during installation!
2. FILE FORMAT & NAMING CONVENTIONS
We accept .svg (Scalable Vector Graphics) vector files exclusively. You must consolidate your entire multi-layered, multi-color design into a single production file. Do not upload separate files for individual layers or colors. Your file is automatically routed and renamed by the platform upon submission — no manual filename convention is required.
3. FINISH LEVEL & SURFACE AREA CONSTRAINTS
Your agency purchased a specific "Finish Level". If ANY isolated design element is smaller than your tier's Minimum Surface Area, the compiler will reject your ENTIRE file batch. We do not auto-delete non-compliant elements; you must fix the file.
- Level 1 (Basic): 1 Layer. N/A (Monolithic Base). No pass-through cuts permitted.
- Level 2 (Dimensional): Up to 2-Layers. Min. Area: 40 sq. inches. Allows Pass-Through cuts for stacked silhouettes or Multi-Tone Inlays.
- Level 3 (Complex): Up to 3-Layers. Min. Area: 25 sqaure inches.
- Level 4 (Advanced): Up to 4-Layers. Min. Area: 15 square inches.
- Level 5 (Flagship): Up to 5-Layers. Min. Area: 10 square inches. Unlocks extreme 3D topography.
THE MINIMUM COMPONENT WIDTH & THE TAPER Exception: As a baseline rule to prevent structural adhesive squeeze-out, no isolated physical vector shape may possess a width narrower than 25.4mm.
However, to accommodate sharp artistic features (e.g., feathers, serifs, leaves), vectors may taper below this 25.4mm choke point down to a sharp point (0mm), strictly provided that the unglued length of this taper—measured from the exact 25.4mm width chord to the absolute tip—does not exceed 50mm. The 12mm PET felt possesses the exact structural rigidity required to cantilever this 50mm distance perfectly flush against the base layer without requiring underlying adhesive. Tapers exceeding this length will curl, create a snag hazard, and trigger an algorithmic Pre-Press rejection.
THE PIECE DENSITY Mandate: To maintain physical integrity and installation viability, your vector design must not exceed a density of 5 individual vector shapes per square foot, per layer.
If your design violates this density limit, the compiler will trigger a FLAGGED_DESIGN_OVERAGE state.
Your agency will be issued a mandatory Architectural Integration Fee surcharge to cover the advanced labor required by our Syndicate to install the micro-components. Production will freeze until this surcharge is settled.
4. THE MATERIAL FILL MANDATE (COLOR CODING THE PHYSICAL WORLD)
You must assign the exact physical material to your vector shapes using our strict Hex Code Swatch Library.
- The Color Overage Surcharge: To mathematically align with your purchased CapEx tier, your design should target a total unique fill-color count at or below your purchased Finish Level layer count (e.g., a Level 3 Finish targets a maximum of 3 colors). Exceeding this count is permitted but triggers a Color Overage Surcharge billed for each additional unique fill color; the Brand Designer is shown this exact charge before submission and may revise the design downward to avoid it. This count applies exclusively to fill colors — toolpath stroke colors are governed separately under Section 5 and never contribute to this total.
- Positive Space (Kept Material): Every vector shape that represents physical felt must be filled with the exact Hex Code corresponding to the Host's aggregated theme palette (e.g., Olive = #616B2F).
- Negative Space (The Void): Any area where the host's drywall should show through must have a purely Transparent fill or a Pure White (#FFFFFF) fill.
- The Porcelain Exception: If your design utilizes the Porcelain physical felt, you must fill those shapes with the assigned Off-White hex code #C9C7C8. Do not use Pure White for physical material.
- The Tactile Purity Mandate (Absolute Prohibition on Printing): You are designing a premium architectural endowment, not a highway billboard. The application of CMYK/RGB direct-to-surface ink printing, dye sublimation, or any form of surface graphic printing onto the PET felt is strictly and unequivocally forbidden. All aesthetic design, branding, and typography must be structurally achieved exclusively through the physical CNC cutting, depth topography, and interlocking assembly of the raw, solid-color felt material.
5. THE DUAL-STROKE MANDATE (CODING YOUR Z-AXIS INTENT)
While your fills dictate the material color, your strokes dictate how the cnc machine cuts that material. you must utilize exactly two stroke colors.
- Standard Cuts (#FF0000): 0-degree through-cuts. Used for all standard silhouettes and mandated for the Layer 1 perimeter.
- Beveled Cuts ( #00FF00 ): 45-degree through-cuts. Unlocked exclusively for pass-through silhouettes and inlays on Layers 2 through APEX.
The Curve Radius Floor: Sharp, intersecting straight lines (e.g., 90° corners) are acceptable. However, any continuous curved path must maintain a Minimum Curve Radius of 12.7mm. Tighter curves will physically shred the felt and trigger total file rejection.
THE CASCADING BOUNDARY RULE (NO OVERHANGS): The geometric footprint of Layer N+1 must sit 100% within the boundaries of Layer N. No cantilevers or designs protruding past the global Canvas perimeter are permitted.
6. THE MATERIAL SWATCH LIBRARY (HEX-FILL MANDATE)
You must strictly utilize the following ALL-CAPS Hex codes for your layer fills. These codes are algorithmically bound to our physical hardware inventory. Using any unlisted Hex code will trigger an instant algorithmic file rejection.
- Identifier: Pure White (#FFFFFF) is mathematically recognized by the digital compiler exclusively as an empty negative space void (exposing the underlying Host drywall). To specify the fabrication of physical white PET felt, the designer must strictly utilize the Universal Anchor hex code #C9C7C8.
- The colors are arranged in each theme with the darkest shade at the top and lightest at the bottom.

THE AUTOMATION MANDATE (THE .ASE INJECTION PROTOCOL): Do not manually type these hex codes. Your downloaded [TBD: Lookbook Array] .zip file contains a dynamically generated [TBD: Approved Color Swatch File] (Adobe Swatch Exchange) file representing the complete aggregated palette of all themes the Host has explicitly approved. You MUST import this .ase file into your Adobe Illustrator Swatches Panel. You are strictly authorized to utilize ONLY the colors from this imported panel. Any vector shape filled with a hex code not native to this exact .ase file will trigger an immediate, automated pre-press rejection. The imported panel is the entire inkwell. A file that stays inside this panel may be composed entirely of Crimson, entirely of Charcoal, or any mix the Host has already authorized, as long as the final result complements the aesthetics of the space.
MATERIAL PHYSICS & HIGH-RES Mockups: Digital Hex codes emit light; acoustic PET felt absorbs light. To prevent digital-to-physical visual drift during your design process, your [Canvas#]_Master.ai file contains embedded, lightweight 72-DPI "Pattern Swatches" of the physical felt. You may use these to quickly visualize the material texture within your vector shapes without bloating the file size.
- For High-Fidelity Client Pitch Decks: Do not rely on the lightweight pattern swatches. We recommend you download the uncompressed, high-resolution physical material textures directly from our secure repository: permamedia.com/assets/textures. We strongly suggest utilizing these assets in your 3D rendering software to maximize visual alignment with the final physical installation.
